Shares knowledge of Biodiversity (vertebrates), especially of Africa with specific examples from field data collection from Ghana, West Africa. In Ghana and indeed West Africa, animals are killed a lot, mainly for food, but most are killed for no justifiable reasons. Snakes and other reptiles in particular are killed on sight due to negative perceptions and fear, locals have about them. This blog intends to educate people about vertebrates of West Africa and help conserve them.

Pythons

They are non venomous snakes found in the tropics. Some can grow very large and long. The longest snake in the world is a python, the reticulated python of Asia. In Ghana pythons longer than 4 metres have been recorded, these, even though non venomous can deliver very painful and nasty bites. For details on pythons click here

Boas

Boas and Python have the largest and longest members in the World respectively. The largest snake in the world is a Boa, the Green Anaconda ( Eunectus murinus ) in South America whiles the longest snake in the world is a python, the reticulated python ( Python reticulatus ) in Asia. Ghana, my country is a small West African country that is bordered to the north by Burkina Faso, East by Togo, West by La Cote d' I voire and south by the Gulf of Guinea. Ghana has been among the top three producers of cocoa worldwide and also among the top 10 producers of gold.
